How WellCare Credentialing Actually Works

Verified July 2026

Timeline

No published day count: decisions follow the monthly credentialing committee cadence

Recredentialing

Every 36 months. Providers already credentialed on one WellCare product are not separately credentialed for another.

The join form is an inquiry for consideration, not a registration: WellCare reviews it and a representative contacts you if the network needs your specialty. Credentialing uses CAQH ProView; claims run through Availity. WellCare is Centene's Medicare brand (legacy Allwell, Health Net, Fidelis Medicare, Ohana and TexanPlus all folded into Wellcare in 2022).

Behavioral health routing: Behavioral health follows the Centene structure, with the pending Magellan divestiture making the counterparty state and date specific.

The stall to avoid: Two traps: treating the inquiry form as an enrollment (a callback only comes if the network needs you, so keep CAQH complete and follow up), and filing with the wrong brand entity for the state. Confirm the operating brand first.

From PayerReady's payer enrollment research, built from the payer's own provider manuals and enrollment pages. Payer processes change; when a fact is not published by the payer, we say so rather than guess.
