What is an NPI Number?
A National Provider Identifier (NPI) is a unique 10-digit identification number issued by CMS to healthcare providers in the United States. It's required for all HIPAA-covered transactions including billing, credentialing, and payer enrollment.
There are two types: NPI-1 for individual providers (physicians, therapists, dentists) and NPI-2 for organizations (group practices, hospitals, clinics).
