Magellan Health is a behavioral health network organization, acquired by Centene in 2022. In December 2025 Centene signed a definitive agreement to sell Magellan, and as of the spring 2026 filings the sale was still pending. Magellan continues to administer behavioral benefits for various plans and states while the transition completes.
Behavioral health routing: Whether your target plan routes behavioral health through Magellan or in house is state and product specific, and it is changing while the divestiture completes.
The stall to avoid: Confirm the behavioral counterparty for your specific state and plan before applying. A Magellan application filed for a state that has moved behavioral health in house goes nowhere.
From PayerReady's payer enrollment research, built from the payer's own provider manuals and enrollment pages. Payer processes change; when a fact is not published by the payer, we say so rather than guess.
