CHAMPVA is a VA health benefits program for eligible spouses, survivors, and dependents, not a network plan: there is no provider credentialing or panel to join. Providers who accept CHAMPVA patients simply bill the VA as the payer under the program rules.
The stall to avoid: Do not confuse CHAMPVA with the VA Community Care Network: CCN is the veteran facing network with actual credentialing, run by Optum in regions 1 to 3 and TriWest in regions 4 and 5. CHAMPVA has no equivalent enrollment.
